Don't smoke: Sickle cell CARRIERS are almost always free of symptoms. They should simply avoid marrying and having children with other carriers. More info needed: If you have sickle cell disease, you should be seen by an adult hematologist. If you have sickle cell disease, you have probably had medical problems during your past 31 years. You probably have sickle trait, which is milder, but this needs to be established by a blood test--hemoglobin electrophoresis. Drink plenty of water in the summer regardless of the type you have. Good luck.
