"Undesired Traits": Sickle cell disease is caused by two individuals who both possess sickle cell trait, a condition in which the individuals look normal and do not have the disease, but carry a recessive gene that when combined with a similar person yields sickle cell disease. This condition can be genetically tested prior to having children- especially african americans.
