Usually benign: I assume you are referring to the lobes of the thyroid gland. Tumors are of concern when they are solitary and cold. When there are several nodules in two different lobes the diagnosis refers to a nodular goiter. If one of the nodules are suspicious then an fna is performed and if this is benign then the diagnosis of goiter is usually considered.
