Elavil (amitriptyline)....: I hope you have already seen your MD and had a work up to check out these headaches and that's who is prescribing the amitriptyline. What kind of headaches do you have? 10mg is the lowest dose it comes in. The AMI may help you sleep, but you may need a higher dose than 10. It can help with anxiety, but again, maybe a higher dose. Talk to your doctor! If necessary, try something else. Good luck!

Amitriptyline: and particularly the tricyclic antidepressants, are frequently prescribed for chronic tension type headache management. Amitriptyline 10mg is a minimal dose and needs to be titrated to effect. Other medications such as fluoxetine, beta-blockers, gabapentin, topiramate, divalproex sodium, just to name a few. See your orofacial pain or headache specialist for medication adjustment.
