Choice: Problems with knees do not carry the same concerns that, for example, heart problems do. Tears of the cartilage or ligaments are not mandatory surgery; neither is arthritis. At your age and if not particularly active, therapy is safer and probably cheaper. You can save surgery for nothing helping severe debilitating pain.
