Tooth pain: Speak to dentist might need root canal if nerve was damaged.

Not normal: You should see your dentist about this. Your bite could be off and need adjusting. It is also possible that this tooth could need a root canal because the decay was extensive.

Red flags: Pain/bleeding/swelling are red flags that something' strong. May be as simple as the filling being microscopically over contoured, or as complex as a necrotic nerve. Please call your dentist.

Possible: It could be serious since it has deep filling. However it may just need a bite adjustment. If filling too high and doesn't allow you to bite normally, the trama may cause a bruising in the tooth socket. This will make it tender to bite on(or tap on). See your dentist.

Not normal: It is an indication for endodontic involvement and root canal is warranted. See your dentist for x-ray, evaluation and treatment.

No: See your dentist. It could be just a high filling, or more likely, it may need root canal work.

It is not unusual: Pain in teeth is never normal. It is possible that the filling in the tooth is too high and just needs to be adjusted by your dentist. If the filling was really deep there was trauma to the nerve and it is possible the tooth may need a root canal. Go back to your dentist and have him or her evaluate the tooth.
