D-dimer: Checking D-dimer is an initial screeing blood test followed by an imaging study (dulpex US or CTA) to confirm blood clots. Hypercoagulablity tests (eg, factor V Leiden, protein C, protein S, Antithrombin III), anti-phospholipid antibody etc are used to identify the cause of DVT in appropriate settings. Based on risk factors your doctor may chose a test to identify the cause of a blood clot.
