Risk of What?: Risk for what? Ast and alt are liver enzymes and are serum (blood) markers of hepatic (liver) function. The degree of elevation and association with other blood test or imaging results are typically used to determine risk of hepatic disease (like hepatitis, cirrhosis or liver cancer).
