I had a root canal 3 weeks ago and just had the crown put in, after a week i have such a dull ache and my tooth is sensitive to hot, is it infected?

Second opinion: Please get that tooth checked again for peri apical pathosis or it could be the periodontal situation . The tissue around the tooth .X ray and periodontal checkup will determine the outcome of the situation . Also have the dentist check the occlusion or if there any premature contact with opposing tooth after placing the crown.

See an Endodontist: It found be as simple as the occlusion on the crown being high, to an unsealing abscess or a missed canal. See a specialist asap!
