Some : Some tenderness is normal after a root canal. It usually subsides after 2-7 days. If it is keeping you awake at night then i would call your dentist. If this is a molar, there could be an extra canal that could be causing the pain. This happens sometimes. I am not sure if you went to a dentist or endodontist. An endodontist specializes in root canals. At the very least i would call your dentist as 3 weeks is long enough to allow the tooth to calm down.

When : When ever you have extended discomfort following treatment you should contact the doctor who is treating you and discuss your symptoms with them. In an ideal situation when root canal therapy is complete the post operative response is uneventful. However there are a number of conditions that do cause pain afterwards and the causes need to be eliminated. First of all, when you close your teeth together are you aware of the root treated tooth striking or touching before the other teeth and does hurt to close your teeth together. If it is uncomfortable on touching the tooth or temporary may be high in the bite and need adjusting. The process of treating a canal may cause material to pass through the end of the tooth and that can cause an inflammatory reaction. Please call you doctor now. Yes. : Yes. You should be pain free by now, are you swollen? Is the pain constant or only when you bite down? These are all factors that your dentist will consider when determining if something is wrong.
