Viral conjunctivitis: This is usually self limiting and lasts maybe 3 weeks. Doctors prescribe steroid/antibiotic eye drops. The steroid relieves inflammation. The antibiotics have little effect the drops do not shorten the length of the infection, but just make you feel a little more comfortable with it.
