A member asked:

Should i be concerned about a tpo level of 4459.60 when the reference range is <60? my doctor is not overly concerned and just prescribed low thyroxin

Elevated TPO: Is an indicator that you have had one or more bouts of thyroid inflammation, or thyroiditis. It is only of concern if you develop hypothyroidism because of it -- which seems to have happened. Treatment with an appropriate amount of brand name T4 replacement to keep your levels normal will correct the problem as long as you take your medication properly.

Doctor is right: Hi. Your high TPO antibodies just define a process (autoimmune thyroid attack = Hashimoto's). The level of the antibodies doesn't influence treatment, and THEY don't cause the disease...they're just a marker. The treatment IS l-thyroxine. Take your l-thyroxine!
