I ate more salt than one needs, along with a higher range sodium diet. how will that affect blood pressure and the heart?

Do not abuse: A single episode will not make a big difference, but having a high sodium diet may affect your blood pressure, your kidney function, give you swelling and fluid retention and if you have heart failure, it will worsen it.
Will make vessels more rigid and in general it is not good.
