A member asked:

Could ultrasound results detect swollen lymph nodes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes and No; depends.: Depending on body part being scanned, yes swollen lymph nodes can be detected. The deeper the location of the lymph node such as in abdomen or pelvis, the more likely a ct or MRI scan would be necessary to see these structures. U/s in the neck, groin, or extremities is much more able at finding enlarged lymph nodes than in deeper or thicker body parts. Ct is the preferred study of choice.
