Unclear question: Why are you undergoing thyroidectomy? What genetic test did you have in mind? More information would be needed to provide a meaningful opinion. Genetic testing is not done routinely before thyroid or other surgery. It would be prudent to discuss the matter with your doctor.

Thyroid cancer?: Hi. The only routine reason to undergo thyroidectomy is for thyroid cancer. If you had an FNA of a nodule with cytology positive for cancer cells, no, you don't need gene testing. If the FNA was indeterminate, that's when gene testing can be helpful. I'm doing too much guessing here; need more information.
