Thyroid function: Hi. You'll want stable thyroid function so you feel your best and have your metabolism straightened out. That depends on how well you doc chose your starting dose of l-thyroxine. If dosage adjustments are required, it takes about 6 weeks between dose changes to see how you respond to the new dose. Be patient. You've got plenty of time to do it right. Good luck!

Normal thyroid level: It sounds like you already have a thyroid surgeon and/ or an endocrinologist with whom you are working. Generally, we do like to ensure that you are euthyrroid (TSH level is normal). It can take anywhere from a month to a few months for this to happen. The excess thyroid hormone has to leave your body and the synthetic hormone needs to kick in and start working.
