Surgery, radiation.: Surgery and radiation is best if the disease is local. For locally advanced disease, surgery and radiation is also done but chemotherapy with Cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil before or during radiation therapy is equally effective. If the patient is rendered disease-free, chemopreventive therapy with cis-retinoic acid may help.

Consultation: Low grade tumors are generally removed surgically, but the head/neck area is very tricky. Generally a multi-specialty conference between surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, medical oncologists is necessary to determine the optimum sequence/combination of treatments.
