No radiation is good: Mri scans can be done safely if there is no metal or metal fragments in the body. If there are (ie. Fragments in the eye from welding), this could be dangerous. The other issue is if contrast is given (usually for brain tumors). If a person has poor kidney function as determined by lab tests, the contrast can lead to the nephrotic syndrome which can severely damage the kidneys.
