PenVK, but..: What is the cause? Even if the antibiotic is effective, it will only be temporary unless the cause of the infection is eliminated.

Antibiotics: Antibiotics are not pain killers. Although they will help reduce the symptoms of the infection, they will not treat the rotten tooth. Trying to medicate yourself without seeing a dentist for definitive care is not a good idea and will only make things worse. Call a dentist asap for an emergency appt and feel better soon.

Depends: As previously suggested antibiotic therapy should be reserved for the treatment of infections that present systemic symptoms. Pain alone is not a determining factor. Even dental infections that only present with local symptoms (no swelling, fever etc.) should not be treated with antibiotics. Please consult with your doctor to see what is best for you.

See a dentist ASAP: If you rely on antibiotics or other not a definitive treatment, the pain always will come back. Dentist will treat a tooth pain by treating the cause and getting rid of the infection. Do not delay. See your dentist ASAP. Good luck.

Pen VK: The most common first line antibiotic used in dental pain is Penn VK, if Penn allergic, clindamycin next. But the solution is to see your dentist, pain will recur after antibiotics stopped.
