Yes: It is still possible to hear, but often times your hearing can be "muffled" a bit.

Yes: Hearing would generally be diminished significantly with a perforation. It could be determined very quickly at any pcps office or at an urgent care if you have a perforation, by looking in the ear canal with an otoscope.
