What may be some of the major disadvantages to front teeth veneers?

Veneers: Porcelain veneers have the potential to break or come off. They have to be remade which is costly and takes time. They are permanent. Some tooth enamel is removed to place them. If broken off can look displeasing. They cannot be placed on unhealthy teeth. People who clench or grind their teeth are not good candidates. Hope this helped!

Highly variable!: These are unusual but are possibilities: it may be necessary to alter the facial convexity of the tooth which can contribute to periodontal issues. Over prepared teeth can become sensitive. Inadequate bonding can result in the veneer coming off. Veneers may fracture especially from trauma). End result may not achieve esthetic expectations. Generally veneers are safe, long lasting, and success.

Veneers: Veneers can be made to look very natural and beautiful. There are a couple of disadvantages. They ocassionally become unbonded. You should wear a night guard. While they do have a lone lifespan, they may need to be replaced at some point in the future. Hope this helps.

Why the need?: Obviously, there are over/under preparation concerns, debonding issues, and hygiene issues. The real question is "why do you need veneers?" if your teeth are just discolored then get whitening. Crooked, get braces. However, if you want to whiten and straighten them and they worn down, there is probably unconscious night grinding. Commit to a night guard (every single night) or don't waste your$$$.

Vs What?: Are the teeth damaged? Or is this purely cosmetic? Any dental restoration will have margin or edge where it meets the natural tooth, this is the weak point where stains may form or new dental caries. Both uncommon with veneers, however, more likely than in a sound tooth. With any restoration there may be post operative sensitivity. Veneers can chip like a natural tooth.
