Loosing teeth: There is no reason to lose your teeth regardless of your age. I have seen teenagers with rampant decay and numerous lost teeth while on the other hand adults in their 90's with a full set of teeth and healthy gums. Poor oral hygiene, infrequent dental checkups and cleanings, a diet that promotes dental caries and some medical conditions make it more difficult to maintain your teeth over time.

No: Loosing teeth is not a normal aging phenomenon. Diabetes puts people at greater risk for periodontal disease but seeing a dentist or periodontal specialist can help you save your teeth, jaw bone and allow you to keep eating healthy foods.
