A member asked:

Whats the difference between a urinanaylsis and a urine culture? which would be best to detect proteus mirabilis? would both be able to do it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cultures are best: A urinalysis is a quick check of the urine that shows the presence of blood, protein, ph, specific gravity, and a quick evaluation of possible infection. It can be done in a couple of minutes by machine. A urine culture takes about 48 hours and will identify the bacterial organism and give the physician a list of the the proper antibiotics to use.
