Possibly: Of mania is severe enough, it can put the person at real risk of behaving in ways that are dangerous to the person or to others. When that happens, hospitalization may be advisable while treatment is started. Other times, families can create a safe environment at home that provides such protection.

Psych Hosp: It could be voluntary or involuntary could be civil or forensic usually the criteria are 1. Imminent danger to self 2. Imminent danger to others 3. Unable to function and take care of self on daily basis, gravely disabled.
