Relatives/Foster car: The children of a hospitalized parent (single, psychiatric or otherwise) would likely be cared for first by relatives.Children's services office of the state would likely be involved to monitor that situation & arrange temporary foster care if it should become necessary.Social workers on staff of most residential facilities/hospitals do this stuff routinely.

Need supervision: Often a relative will step in and provide emergency supervision. Sometime it is necessary for child protective services to provide temporary custodial arrangements or respite care. Occasionally the child can be admitted simultaneously to a child psychiatric unit of the hospital.
