Perhaps: Vipassana retreats are silent for several days or more. Unless absolutely necessary, communicating through writing or eye contact is discouraged -- so that you can be with yourself during the meditation periods. Others usually provide food, but you might be assigned to some work duties. It's possible to regress during this time. Depending on your emotional health, you normalize afterwards.
