Use it after: It would be better to do any whitening after your braces are off. If you do it with the brackets on, you risk the possibility of having a white tooth with a darker square in the middle.

Whitening teeth: The toothpaste cannot get under the braces, so it may result in your teeth having areas of different colors when the braces come off.

Not necessarily...: Teeth can darken a lot while wearing braces if meticulous oral hygiene is not upkept... If you do use a whitening toothpaste to help with some stain removal, make sure that it is not too abrasive, as this could damage the teeth... If you do any true professional whitening, then you may have some darker areas to touch up where the brackets were (once they come off)...

Iffy: Whitening toothpastes tend to be more abrasive. No toothpaste can clean behind the braces. Best choice is clean well, especially between braces and gum line, with pea-sized portion of regular toothpaste. Once braces removed, and entire tooth surface available, entire tooth can be whitened.
