There is no evidence: That drug testing programs in schools have reduced use of illicit drugs (or for that matter the larger problems of the legal drugs - alcohol/tobacco) in young adults. However, they are widely used, particularly for those who want to get involved in extracurricular activities like athletics, band and even chess club in some schools. I think better education about drug risks, peer support better.
