Heart rate: Your heart rate usually slows significantly at rest and when asleep. It isn't unusual to have a pulse of 50 upon awakening. Faster heart rates occur when you are active during the day. The average heart rate then is about 72 but rates from 55 to 90 may be within normal limits for different individuals.
