A member asked:

My dr ordered a culture of my urine and a complete semen analysis.does this check for all bacteria and infections or would a semen culture be helpful also?or is it not needed with the first two tests?

Depends: You do not state the reason for the study but i'll assume a prostate problem. A regular urine culture checks for common bacteria but not gonorrhea or chlamydia if a std might be an issue. A semin analysis would normally examine the components and ratio of active to inactive sperm. If your doc ordered the original culture with a std in mind, s/he probably has all needed info. You could ask.
