Because it may not: You say that you have kahler's disease, which is another name for multiple myeloma. Were you initially diagnosed with mgus that later progressed to mm? If so, that is unfortunate. The vast majority of mgus do not progress to mm, and so it is felt to be better to monitor for progression rather than to treat mgus as treatment has its own downsides.

No affect: Only a small proportion of mgus progresses to myeloma. So we would be treating patients who do not treatment. Hope this helps.
