Multiple: Pcos is diagnosed when women have various symptoms such as: 1.Anovulation (not producing eggs)- irregular periods, 2.Excess androgens (male hormones)- that can cause acne, body hair growth, scalp hair loss, 3. Cysts on ultrasound, 4.Insulin resistance (associated with weight gain, high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, high sugars). One needs to have at least 2 of the above to consider pcos.
