Lots of things: Manage pain and other symptoms for once. Perhaps more importantly, allow a patient live the remainder of his/her life with dignity and the best quality of life possible, preferably in his/her house and in the company of the family. Should be strongly considered for those who have chosen not to get aggressive therapy.

End of life care.: Hospice is meant for those who seemingly at the end of life, although that end can still be many months away. The emphasis of hospice care is not trying to save the life, but to give comfort to the individual as their death approaches. hospice care can include pain management and emotional counseling.
