Mismatch: Think of any personality disorder as the mismatch between ideal coping skills needed to deal with adulthood stress and coping skills developed as a child to deal with stress in general. Usually occurs due to unusual coping skills honed to survive difficult childhood conditions. Borderline is one such disorder. Foundation of recovery (which is possible) is long-term therapy. Hope this helps.
