And they don't know?: Seriously, i would simply tell them in your own words what it is and how it feels. I would also only do this if you been officially diagnosed by mental health professional. There is also an excellent book "walking on egg shells" by paul mason. It is a book on how to live with someone who has borderline personality disorder. It is a great read and i know paul personally since we both work in the same city.

Be direct: If you have seen a professional, you could offer to meet with the professional and your family to talk about the diagnosis. If you are going to talk with your family, i'd prepare a list of the symptoms that accurately describe your mood and behavior. Symptoms that would be hard for them not to recognize in you.
