I have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. can you tell me what this is and how to explain it to family and friends?

BPD is a personality: configuration characterized by very poor self-esteem, unstable relationships, volatile moods, acting out in extreme ways (drugs, sex, manipulating), and in extreme versions, hysteria, antisocial tendencies, paranoia, even psychotic episodes. "Borderline" means sometimes close to psychosis, sometimes not. Read everything you can before sharing any of this with others. Web MD, Psychology Today
