Consult psychiatrist: This can be a complex diagnosis, and i would not try to label myself or allow untrained others to label me this way. Instead, please consult with a mental health professional such as a psychiatrist or psychologist. Please understand that it may take more than one session for an evaluation of this nature. The doctor may need to review previous records, get psychological testing, etc.

Think -Are, not have: A personality is what you're like, not something you have or get. It's not a disease, but a way of being that doesn't work very well. Borderline people flip between extreme attitudes of positive ; negative on many, if not most things. It is hard for them to maintain anything for that reason. When they are pro, they love whatever it is, but it can and does change to con on a dime - and back again.

Mismatch: Think of any personality disorder as the mismatch between ideal coping skills needed to deal with adulthood stress and coping skills developed as a child to deal with stress in general. Usually occurs due to unusual coping skills honed to survive difficult childhood conditions. Borderline is one such disorder. Foundation of recovery (which is possible) is long-term therapy. Hope this helps.
