Carbohydrates: Contain calories (as do fats and proteins). Weight is gained when calorie intake exceeds calories burned.

Not exactly: Veggies ; fruits are carbohydrates, and so is brown rice, etc. These are also high fiber though, and are healthy in a weight loss diet. Heavily processed carbohydrates like cupcakes, cookies, crackers, white flour bread products, and table sugar drive up your Insulin -- and over time can lead to Insulin resistance. This can lead to weight gain. Type of carbs is important, and so are the calories.
