Habits and attitudes: Eat only to satisfy hunger, and learn to tell it from appetite ('mmm, that looks good'; 'i'm stressed / need a reward so i'll eat'). Avoid all greasy, sugary and salty stuff. Do as much aerobic exercise as you can. Get with fitness-focused friends who are farther along than yourself.
