Allergies v Reflux: It is impossible to tell without a clinical exam and more information, however if she is otherwise healthy and not on medications. It is most likely that her symtoms are allergy related and may improve with taking an otc antihistamine such as Claritin (loratadine) (weaker) or zyrtec (stronger, but more sedating). Another common cause of these symptoms could be reflux.

Many possibilities: Sometimes a kid will develop a transient tic, like throat clearing after an otherwise simple URI.The non-purposeful behavior can last up to 6 mo but usually fades. Kids can suppress it some but usually have little true control over it. It could also represent post nasal drainage (allergies) or mild reflux. If it bothers the kid have it checked out.
