Generally: short interval follow up is the suggested management for an average risk patient with BIRADS 3 lesions, which have less than 2% chance of malignancy based on imaging features. In a high risk patient, however, it would not be inappropriate to perform a needle biopsy of a BIRADS 3 lesion in order to establish a definitive diagnosis without having to wait.
