Good things: Posts are placed in root canal treated teeth to strengthen them so a fracture does not occur at the gum line at a later time. Posts are commonly covered over with a crown that joins tightly to the contour of the tooth remains after the injury that necessitated the root canal. It is only the most severely damaged teeth that get this level of treatment. Protect the joint with good hygiene.

This post allows the dentist to build a broken-down tooth back up so that a crown can be placed. A crown is a porcelain, metal, or other dental material prosthesis that is placed over the top of a tooth to provide strength and save the tooth.
