"Inhaling lunch"...: ...Gets a new and literal meaning. Aspiration is when stomach contents reflux up the esophagus and run into / are inhaled into the larynx. Depending on consistency and ph, variable degrees of chemical burn can occur in addition to depositing food matter in the airways which attract bacteria and white blood cells and a vigorous inflammatory response--which can raise WBC and cause fever.
