Varicose veins: Varicose veins are typically a genetic condition, but certain predisposing factors can make them present or progress more quickly. Being significanly overweight or obese can cause the legs veins to be under excessive pressure ; lead to the appearance of varicose veins. Being pregnant can also do the same thing, increasing the pressure on the legs and causing the veins to manifest themselsves.

Weight/Varicose Vein: Increased weight can theoretically cause more pressure on the veins resulting in weakening of the venous valves leading to vein formation but this is just a theory and has never been proven. Varicose veins are due to malfunctioning (refluxing) of the saphenous system of veins. If you have varicose veins see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation with a venous ultrasound.
