Perfectly ok: Scaling and root planning are part of initial periodontal therapy and is done on mainly on exposed root surfaces and those just above the periodontal attachments. Crowns, if in good condition, would not effect the outcome of the scaling and root planning. Your mouth and gum will be healthier for the treatment! Good luck and don't forget to brush and floss, too!

Common procedure : This procedure is usually performed with special dental hand instruments and may include an ultrasonic scaling and irrigation tools. The scaling tool removes calculus and plaque from the surface of the natural and artificial crown and root surfaces. If you have any concerns, please ask your dentist. Very common procedure.
