Scar revision: Generally, a hypertrophic (thick) scar is excised. This means that it is removed by cutting it out with a scalpel. The dermis (deep skin) this then repaired in layers. This keeps tension off of the superficial skin and should help to improve the width and quality of the scar. Post surgical therapy with silicone strips or other topical creams may also be helpful
