Months: Most scars are durably healed in 4-6 weeks. But studies have shown the average time for complete scar maturation (become soft, pale, and flat) is 7 months. Some individuals with genetic tendencies for hypertrophic scarring will take 1-2 years or more for their scars to settle down. Keloid-formers (also genetic) may have ongoing scar thickening and widening, which is why keloids are hard to treat.

Recovery time varies: Recover time will vary depending on many factors including age, general health of the patient, infection control, smoker or not, blood sugar control, the exact type of procedure, and post-operative and follow up care. Discuss it with your surgeon and get their opinion as to what they feel is a reasonable recovery time for you.

Healing the scar: The question is quite non-specific as the site, size, depth of scar is not mentioned. In general, wound healing is quick especially if appropriate care was undertaken to manage the skin tension ; wound closure.Scar maturation has two phases, the first which usually lasts approx 3 months in which the scar gets redder ; more indurated while the second which lasts about 6 months ; scar gets pale;soft.
