Not well-known: The mechanisms of Lyrica (pregabalin) is not well defined. Although Lyrica (pregabalin) is related to the inhibitory amino acid, gaba, it does not directly affect GABA or benzodiazepine receptors. Studies have suggested that the therapeutic effect is achieved by selectively binding to voltage-gated calcium channels and blocking the release of calcium, thereby inhibiting the presynaptic release of pain neurotransmitters.
