No narcotics: If his pain complaint is due to his altered state of thinkings then that issue should be addressed. Pain medications that alter conciousness may be contraindicated in patients with dementia.

Check it out: His complaint should be taken seriously & investigated if no real source can be found then look into other possible meanings--fear--wanting attention etc.
