Doctors office: They may put you on antiinflammatories for the acute phase, sometimes an oral steroid, sometimes an injection. Once the acute phase is over then a medicaiton to control your uric acid levels would be appropriate.

Gout: Kidney impairment and diuretic meds are common causes. Diet can aggravate. So avoid alcohol, animal fats, organ meats and shellfish. Limit other meats to 4 oz per day. Avoid high fructose corn syrup containing drinks. Add egg whites, quinoa, soy as protein. Eat lots of fruit and veggies. Drink 3 liters per day. Tart cherry juice daily can help. Citrus fruit daily can help
